Ernest Cole was born in Eersterust in Pretoria, South Africa in 1940. He left school early and became an unskilled labourer. Lucas Valeriu Radebe (born 12 April 1969) is a former Leeds United and South African football player. During his career, Radebe was renowned for being a world-class centre back and a great ambassador for the sport.

He began playing in South Africa with Kaizer Chiefs, following this he moved to Premiership side Leeds United and over the course of several years firmly established himself as a club legend, retiring after having played over 200 matches for the Yorkshire side.

Mende Nazer is a British author and human rights activist, whose work is mostly based on a former life as a slave in Sudan.

Nazer, who lived in a village near the Nuba mountains of Sudan with her family, was abducted and sold into slavery in Sudan when she was a child of twelve or thirteen (her birthdate is unknown) following an attack on her village. Although she had fled with her family into the mountains during the raid, she became separated from her family, and when a man caught her and promised he would protect her, she believed him, unaware that the man was a slavedealer. David Lekuta Rudisha (born 17 December 1988) is a Kenyan middle distance runner and world record holder in the 800 metres with a time of 1:41.09.

Born in kovai, Trans Mara District, Rudisha went to St. Francis, Kimuron Secondary School in Iten, Keiyo District which is known for nurturing several top runners. Initially he was a 400 metres runner, but his coach, Colm O’Connell, prompted him to try 800 metres. In 2006 he became the world junior champion over the distance. Read More

Ernest Obeng

Ernest Obeng (born 8 April 1956) is a retired Ghanaian sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres. His personal best time was 10.21 seconds, achieved in August 1980 in Budapest. Ghana boycotted the Olympic Games that year.

He won the gold medals at the 1979 African Championships and 1982 African Championships. Obeng also competed at the 1983 World Championships, and won the British AAA Championships in 1985.

Obeng also came 2nd in the World Cup 100m in 1981, finishing behind Allan Wells of Europe. He is now in charge of television operations for the IAAF, working from their offices in Monaco.

Dr. Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka (b.1950) is an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT). She is the highest ranking African woman in the UN System.

Born in Tanzania, Tibaijuka studied Agricultural Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala and is fluent in EnglishSwahiliSwedish andFrench. She is the widow of the former Tanzanian ambassador Wilson Tibaijuka who died in 2000. She is the second highest ranking African woman in the UN after Dr Asha Rose Migiro, the Deputy UN Secretary General (Who is also a Tanzanian). Read More
