Mo Ibrahim

Dr. Mohamed “Mo” Ibrahim (born 1946) is a Sudanese-born British mobile communications entrepreneur. He worked for several other telecommunications companies before founding Celtel. He is currently on the board of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, and is a member of the Africa Regional Advisory Board of London Business School. He is married to Hania, a former consultant radiologist in the NHS, with whom he has a daughter, Hadeel, and a son, Hosh.

Ibrahim created the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.[1] In 2007, the Foundation inaugurated the Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, with the first recipient former president Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique.

The Foundation also published the Ibrahim Index of African Governance, ranking the performance of the 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The stated aims of the foundation are to:
-Stimulate debate on good governance across sub-Saharan Africa and the world
-Provide objective criteria by which citizens can hold their Governments to account
-Recognise achievement in African leadership and provide a practical way in which African leaders can build positive legacies on the continent when they have left office

In 2007, the foundation published an index ranking the performance of the 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The countries are graded on factors such as security, levels of corruption, and respect for human rights. The index was developed by Ibrahim along with Kennedy School of Government professors Robert I. Rotberg and Rachel Gisselquist. Mauritius, the Seychelles, and Botswana were ranked first, second, and third, respectively, while Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Somalia held the third lowest, second lowest, and lowest places respectively. Ibrahim’s home country, Sudan, was placed fourth lowest.

The Economist noted that island countries seemed to do better than their counterparts on the mainland.

Greetings and thanks for your initiatives and indeed action for Africa.
I listened your interview on BBC last week and I found that you can be of help to our NGO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE LIMITED(SODIL) because of financial and Technical resources. All the money we had was used up during Registration, opening the Bank account and office.
As you had concern for Presidents ours is for the elderly who have no social protection from the state, they used to be looked after by their children but with the HIV/AIDS most of them are left with grandchildren who need help as well.
Please we will appreciate your response so that we can take off.
